Jen Hogg

Jenerates

Jen has been sewing and knitting for so long she can’t remember being taught.  She was a semi-finalist on The Great British Sewing Bee series 5, and runs her own business Jenerates by Jen Hogg, designing unique tools and notions for sewing and yarn crafts, which have been featured in major sewing magazines and books, on television and in podcasts, and which she sends all over the world.  She exhibits at the major sewing shows in the UK and also runs sewing retreats in Scotland.

She has a passion for upcycling and has been working with charity shop finds since her school days.  She works extensively with textile waste from local cashmere and woollen mills, using loom and slitter tape as well as pieces of cloth.  All of the photos here are of upcycled garments or items made entirely from waste textiles.

Jen lives in Glasgow with her husband and the HoggDogg Stanley.  In her time she’s been a litigation solicitor, owned a design-led giftware shop and worked with an international charity.  You can read more about her on her websiteand you’ll find Jen on Instagram and other social media as @jenerates.

Overlocking Workshops

OVERLOCKERS

  1. Infinity Scarf
  2. Make up remover eco-pads
  3. Multipurpose bandana
  4. Knotted hairbands

1. Infinity Scarf

Want to learn some overlocking skills? Come and choose jumper scraps, sew them together and create a unique infinity scarf. If you’ve got an old favourite jumper to upcycle, bring it along. If you’ve got time, make more than one.

2. Make Up Remover Eco-pads

The cornerstone of anyone’s sustainability journey. Make your own reusable make up remover pads, with towelling on one side and linen on the other. Super easy to make on our overlockers.

3. Multipurpose Bandana

Upcycle a tee into an oh-so-useful multi-purpose bandana. You’ll use the overlocker to stitch stripes into the fabric, and to sew the bandana together. Use it as a hairband, a neck warmer, in the shower, as a makeup band, whatever you like! Bring your own tee or use one from our stash.

4. Knotted Hairbands

Tee shirts can have great graphics, but we do wear out the ones we love the most. Here’s an idea for them to carry on bringing you joy: make a knotted headband. It’s an easy make, you might have time to do 2 or 3. Bring your own tee or use one from our stash.
