Caroline Arthur

Bespoke Bridal Gown Designer & Author

Caroline Arthur is a wedding dress designer, writer and speaker. She is the author of RELOVABLE: What to do with your old wedding dress – a charity fundraiser for the Fashion and Textile Children’s Trust which will be available to buy at The Good Clothes Show. She studied Couture Bridal Wear at the London College of Fashion, featured in the BBC hit TV show “Don’t tell the Bride” and commentated LIVE for The Independent, at the Royal Wedding of Prince Harry at Windsor, talking about Meghan’s dress.

Having designed, made and remodelled sustainable wedding dresses for over 20 years, she is known for having created the ground-breaking dress designer app CoutureKit which allows the user to design their own dress online and then have it made in sustainably sourced or recycled fabric, encouraging brides to use fabric harvested from an heirloom in their family. This was featured on stage by Caryn Franklin at the National Wedding Show in 2016 and was hugely popular, inspiring other designers to offer similar “pick and mix” collections.

Caroline grew up in a family of dressmakers and has a degree in Italian from Lancaster University. She spent a year in Florence and enjoyed 10 years working for Monsoon as an area manager in the 1990s, where she cut her teeth in retail and began understanding some of the challenges consumers face with regard to their body image and desire for individuality. Caroline has built an enviable reputation for creating meticulously crafted wedding dresses with and without CoutureKit.

She supports and mentors fashion design students and aspiring wedding dress designers, working closely with fashion colleges.  Caroline recently set up her own independent creative online bookshop where you’ll find inspiring creative books about upcycling, sewing and sustainable fashion. Several of the books available were written by speakers at The Good Clothes Show.
